Lin Fengmian learns the techniques of traditional Chinese painting at an early age and sells his first work at just 9 years old. He was in Shanghai in 1918 when he heard about a study program in France and rushed there the same year.
Upon graduation in 1925, he returned to China and almost immediately became the pioneer and driving force of Western modern art, and founded what is now the China Lin FengMian started Chinese painting at age of 6 by learning Manual of the Mustard Seed Garden and continued art education in Paris École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts (ENSBA) in 1921. At age of 26, he became school master of China Academy of Art which was the top art college in China. In 1925 Lin Fengmian returned to Beijing, where he had his first solo exhibition one year later.
In the early 1950s, Lin Fengmian moved from Hangzhou to Shanghai, stepping away from his career in education and embarking upon a golden era in his creative work.
